Online Learning - Technology Requirements
Technology
A critical element to the online program is the computer and internet access. A student must have unlimited
use of a computer with an internet service. For some, a laptop computer may be more convenient in order to
work while traveling.
Minimum hardware requirements would be:
- Pentium-speed processor with Microsoft� Windows�98 or higher
- 128 MB RAM
- Color monitor or laptop screen (16 bit, 800 x 600 resolution)
- 24x or faster CD-ROM drive
- Direct internet connection (cable/dsl) or modem (56k modem required)
- Sound card and speakers
- Hard disk with at least 40 MB available
- Microphone
- Microsoft� Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher
Note: Your browser Must have 128-bit encryption for security reasons
- Office 97 or 2000 (Word, Excel, and Powerpoint)
- Graphics program (drawing and viewing)
- Antivirus program (updated regularly)
- Email program and account configured for all anticipated connections
(The account can not be a shared account with other family members)
Technology Skills
The following skills are requirements for participating in the Bradenton Preparatory Academy Online High School Curriculum:
- Use Word (basic knowledge)
- Use Excel (basic knowledge)
- Use PowerPoint� (basic knowledge)
- Use email
- Use a web browser
- Send, receive, open and save attachments
The following skills will be demonstrated on a routine basis:
- Basic file management
- Open/save documents
- Find saved documents
- Create folders
- Copy/paste content and files
- Download files from the internet
- Install software
- Use the recycle bin
- Update antivirus definitions
- Make back-up files
Parents should feel comfortable communicating through email. We require a separate email address for all parent
communication.

Please note:
The Bradenton Preparatory Academy is not responsible for student computers, laptops, software or internet connections.
We are not responsible for providing technology support for hardware or software from other companies.
Students are responsible to have all systems functioning. Maintenance is the responsibility of the student.
Students will not be excused from work based on malfunctioning of their computers, etc.
Support for all courseware is available by email or telephone. Course content support is provided by the teacher.
