Online Learning - Honor Code
Bradenton Preparatory Academy Honor Code
Bradenton Preparatory Academy has an honor code governing student behavior. All tests, exams, and projects are to include a
statement that contains the following sentence:
I pledge to abide by the honor code established by Bradenton Preparatory Academy.
The honor code at Bradenton Preparatory Academy demands that each student abide by the highest standards of honesty
and integrity in his/her academic life. The effectiveness of this honor code depends on the concept of dual
responsibility; individuals assume the responsibility of their own actions and those of other students.
There will be no toleration of dishonesty, cheating or plagiarism in any form.
Each student in the Bradenton Preparatory Academy community is expected to be familiar with, adhere to and enforce
the code of honor. A student is expected to include the statement "I pledge" on all work submitted to
indicate acceptance and compliance with this code.
Honor Code Violations
Cheating is not acceptable at Bradenton Preparatory Academy. All students may regard the reading of the student handbook
as their warning against any form of cheating. Cheating discredits the student, his/her classmates, and shows
a lack of respect for academic ideals.
Cheating includes the following actions:
- Plagiarism: either direct, copying another's work and failing to give proper credit; or indirect, paraphrasing another's ideas or theories or use of another's ideas by changing specific words.
- Attempting to use someone else's work or copy from another's project.
- Having others complete work or projects and submitting as one's original attempt.
- Purchasing essays from a variety of websites.
Procedure:
- The teacher determines that cheating occurred.
- The teacher notifies the Guidance Center of incident.
- The Guidance Center notifies parents and arranges conference with Academic Dean and teacher, parents and the student.
- Teacher submits "0" for the assignment.
- Documentation of cheating is included in student file.
- Teacher may decide to retest or reassign another project in order to determine student mastery of information.
The directors and faculty council may convene a Peer Court to help adjudicate any discipline code infraction.
The Peer Court is made up of one tenth grader, two eleventh graders, and four seniors. These students are selected at
random and sit for one case only. The rules of Bradenton Preparatory Academy are not restrictive in a negative way. They allow us
to live as an orderly community, respecting the rights of others.
School Policy Violations
Violations of school policy are reviewed on an individual basis. Disciplinary action is determined based upon the
severity of the offense. The school maintains a zero tolerance for drug, alcohol abuse and violence.
